A comprehensive Design System created with consistency, ease, and speed in mind for one of Australia’s largest private health insurers.
Design System has been debranded to protect this client's privacy.
I pitched the idea of creating a Design System for this particular client after seeing room for improvement during a prior project
The project's outcome was well-received by both the business and its customers. However, it was evident that the absence of a Design System had led to difficulty defining what consistency meant, and a less than ideal experience for the design and development team.
A well-implemented Design System would greatly alleviate existing consistency issues by offering a comprehensive collection of styles, colours, and reusable components such as buttons, input fields, date pickers, and more.
Before, designers and developers invested excessive time in defining visual requirements, searching for or creating assets that may already exist, grappling with inconsistencies, and underutilising code reuse.
Addressing these challenges would help to yield time savings across the board, especially in change management and internal brand reviews.
I set to future-proof the system from its conception by incorporating scalability, flexibility, and adaptability to accommodate evolving technologies and design trends, ensuring its long-term relevance and usability.
The design system was built to allow designers to customise components in a way that would ensure visual consistency, yet be suitable for an array of needs.
For buttons, designers have the option to choose from a set of sizes, button style (primary, outline, text or destructive), and a range of icon options.

The end result of creating a design system for this insurer was a game-changer – not only did it provide a consistent and seamless user experience across their digital platforms, but it also played a crucial role in the development of their new app, all while easing the onboarding process for new designers.
